Don't Hibernate! Come to School.

Dr. Tinnell and Mrs. Sandrell have a special message for our Bears: Don’t hibernate. Come to school! JBES families, did you know chronic absenteeism and truancy mean different things? Chronic absenteeism means a student misses 10% or more of the school days they are enrolled, including excused and unexcused absences. Your child should miss no more than four (4) days within nine weeks. Missing sixteen (16) or more days during the school year leads to a significant loss of instructional time, which can impact your child’s academic progress.

Truancy refers to unexcused absences only. In Tennessee, a student is considered truant after 5 unexcused absences. However, excused absences still count toward chronic absenteeism because students miss learning time.

We understand that illnesses and emergencies happen. Please submit absence notes and contact us if your family needs help with attendance. Every day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and connect.

Let’s help our Bears show up and succeed!

Toys at School Reminder

To create a focused, safe learning environment for all students, please leave toys at home. Toys can be distracting, get lost or broken, and disrupt learning. This includes Pokémon cards.

If a student brings a toy to school, the following procedures will be followed:

First Occurrence: The teacher gives a warning and reminds the student of the expectation.
Second Occurrence: The teacher collects the toy, labels it with the student's name, and sends it to the front office. A parent/guardian must pick up the item.

Thank you for your support in keeping our classrooms focused, safe, and ready for learning.
